Thirlmere Natural Infinity Pool (including parking and gpx file)

Please remember that all the natural swim spots in the Lake District are dangerous, wild places. Visit them at your own risk. Please also remember to respect these places and others using them, and take any rubbish away with you and leave no trace.

Thirlmere Infinity Pool is arguably one of the best natural infinity pools in the Lake District and for certain one of the best wild swimming spots in the area.

In recent years Thirlmere Infinity Pool it has become a popular dipping spot with both locals and tourists alike. It’s a relatively straightforward walk to get there and aside from a steep section at the waterfall itself, is quite friendly terrain.

The pool is quite small and can get busy at peak times. As it’s not a very long or difficult walk to find, getting the main infinity pool to yourself can be a challenge.

We’d recommend taking a dip at either sunrise or sunset, with sunset being the optimal time, as the water temperature will be at its best - it will always be cold. Please take precautions!

Here’s everything you need to know about how to find the Thirlmere infinity pool.

Follow Stanah Lane up the little gate at the end. There should be a sign here for Sticks Pass. From here continue to head diagonally up and right until you reach the corner of a wall and the path levels off. From here follow the path along at this trajectory for about 700m.

You’ll eventually come to a gate, immediately followed by a bridge. At this point, the waterfall that creates the infinity pool can be seen. (Pictured below).

Go through the gate and immediately head up the bank towards the waterfall. There should be a path through the bracon.

Once here it’s simply a case of getting in! Enjoy it and respect it!
